Abstract
This project studies and evaluates the performance of a multi-stage solid propellant rocket throughout its atmospheric ascent and until its orbital insertion. Therefore, the chemical composition of the fuel and oxidant is first analyzed and, then, a preliminary proposal is elucidated under the results obtained from NASA's CEARUN program, which employs equilibrium chemical thermodynamics to analyze combustion and rocket problems. Subsequently, the differential equations that characterize the movement of the vehicle along the trajectory are solved numerically. To conduct the research, different simulations were executed by modifying parameters of relevance, such as the ratio of areas between the throat and the exit of the nozzle, the ignition time of each stage, the distribution of propellant between phases, or the response of including the third stage. Finally, an optimized rocket alternative is proposed, taking into account the results obtained and following the suggested orbital insertion.
