Abstract
Ground movement control is of paramount importance in the construction of a new Metro line in Barcelona given the large diameter of the excavation and the need to cross heavily built areas. A variety of construction procedures for ground movement control are envisaged. In the paper three examples from the early part of the project are described. They involve: (i) the installation of a screen of jet grouted columns, (ii) compensation grouting, and (iii) structural jacking.
