Impacto ambiental de la fibra óptica

Abstract

In this project we will analyze what is the environmental impact (including socio-economic aspects) of fiber optics. Initially we will detail the impact that fiber optics has on a country's economy. For this it will be necessary to explain the concept of broadband and what are the technologies that form it. Once explained this concept we have chosen two leading countries in the deployment of fiber such as Spain and Romania to analyze what has been its progress in recent years. Next, we will explain the environmental impact of fiber optic, detailing the different base materials, the types of fiber, its manufacturing processes, recycling and the problems associated with the use and handling of optical fiber. Later we will introduce the concept of plastic optical fiber as an alternative to conventional fiber. In this section we will detail what are the different types of plastic optical fiber and its main characteristics. To finish we will make some power balances to be able to compare the features offered by each of them, in this way we can exemplify in which areas it is more appropriate to use this type of fiber.
