Abstract
This paper presents a method of vectorial plotting of alphanumeric characters on a cathode ray tube display.
A restricted set of vectors of several sizes and slopes, previously chosen, making possible the generation of the ASCII code characters, proves to require only a reasonalbe amount of memory to store the information corresponding to the different characters, and necessitates a quite simplified circuitry.
The main problem of this representation is the deformation of the characters' graphics, due to the filtering to be undergone in the deflection circuits. This leads to the need for the minimization of the biggest error on display between a real, and a desired character, by selecting the optimal among all the possible ways of generating a character. In this regard an algorithm is described for this minimization, based on the study of the error corresponding to the different elbows of the deflection voltage vs. time function.
The results shown lead to the conclussion that with the method described it is possible to achieve a quality comparable to that of the most sophisticated vectorial methods.
