Visualization research of energy dissipation in a pump turbine unit during turbine mode's starting up
(Elsevier, 2023-11-01)
Article
Restricted access - confidentiality agreementIdentifying the precise location of flow energy dissipation (FED) in pump turbines is crucial for enhancing the stability of pumped storage power stations. In this study, the transient process of the turbine mode's starting ... -
Water saving options in hydropower by means of variable speed operation: a prototype study in a mid-head Francis turbine
(Elsevier, 2023-06-22)
Article
Open AccessNowadays, in order to mitigate the global warming effects, there is a need of renewable energy generation for the objective of carbon neutrality. In this context, hydropower plays a key role not only because the amount of ... -
On the added modal coefficients of a rotating submerged cylinder induced by a whirling motion. Part 1: Experimental investigation
(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), 2023-09-08)
Article
Open AccessThe operation of submerged rotating machines, such as marine current or tidal turbines, can present deleterious fluid phenomena that may provoke extreme structural vibrations. To predict their dynamic responses, it is ... -
Thermal, acoustic, and fire performance characterization of textile face mask waste for use as low-cost building insulation material
(Elsevier, 2023-04)
Article
Open AccessEnvironmental issues are becoming increasingly important, and researchers are developing new technologies and models to reduce environmental impact. The circular economy is a production and consumption model that involves ... -
Diagnostics of a hydraulic turbine failure
(2022)
Conference report
Open AccessThis paper presents the failure analysis and diagnostic of a hydraulic turbine. Shortly after a maintenance revision the thrust bearing of the turbine was destroyed when the turbine was put into operation. The damaged ... -
Characterization of the fluid damping in simplified models of pump-turbines and high head Francis runners
(IOP Publishing, 2022)
Conference report
Open AccessIn order to satisfy the power demand in the electrical grid, hydraulic turbine units frequently work under off-design operation conditions and pass through transient events. These operation conditions can lead to high ... -
Resonance vibration interventions in the femur: Experimental-numerical modelling approaches
(Elsevier, 2021-12)
Article
Restricted access - publisher's policyMotive: External vibration excitation might be key to many novel non-surgical interventions for pathologies in the musculoskeletal system and in other parts of the human organism. Lack of understanding about vibration ... -
Thermal assessment of a ventilated double skin façade component with a set of air filtering photocatalytic slats in the cavity
(2023-01-17)
Article
Open AccessIndoor air quality is a crucial factor when evaluating habitability, especially in developed countries, where people spend most of their time indoors. This paper presents a novel double skin façade (DSF) system that combines ... -
Time-frequency domain characteristics analysis of a hydro-turbine governor system considering vortex rope excitation
(2022-01)
Article
Open AccessUnderstanding and simulating the dynamic characteristics of the hydro-turbine governor system is essential to guarantee the safety of the hydro-power systems. This study proposes a modification method of the water head at ... -
Hybridization in Kaplan turbines. Wear and tear assessment
(IOP Publishing, 2022)
Conference report
Open AccessIn the current energy market, hydraulic turbines are increasingly demanded to work in Frequency containment reserve (FCR) mode to compensate the constant frequency fluctuations in the electrical grid. To do so, hydraulic ... -
Numerical analysis on the modal characteristics of a pumped storage unit runner in cavitating flow
(Elsevier, 2022-12-01)
Article
Restricted access - publisher's policyCavitation is an important issue in pumped storage unit as it can compromise the safe and stable operation of the unit. The present work aims revealing the dynamic behavior of a pump-turbine runner in cavitating flow from ... -
