Optimizing link spectrum occupancy in elastic optical networks

This work focuses on spectrum assignment in Elastic Optical Networks. The accurate study about spectrum occupancy in a flexgrid link is carried out. As a result, the probability values of finding different connection sizes in a perfectly occupied spectrum are derived. It has been found that the possible states of a full spectrum window are described by the Fibonacci succession terms. After developing some rules on the best traffic profiles matching with this property, the proposal is assessed by means of simulation in a typical flexgrid link as well as at the whole network level.
