Abstract
When considering marine accidents, vessel collision is the most harmful case. Acollision between ships could end in loss of life of passengers as well as significanteconomic losses and has very negative impact on the environment, especially if thevessels carry any chemicals or any other harmful materials that could be dangerousfor marine life. This thesis presents some effective collision avoidance solutions computing the riskof collision by means of an Automatic Identification Systems (AIS). The systemdisplays on a screen all the ships in a given area with different colors and alerts thecaptain of a possible collision. To reduce collision between vessels, the systemproposes variations of trajectory for specified targets and, if asked, for all targets. Ifthe captain is not presented in the cabin the system will send alert text messages inorder to inform him the about the possibility of collision. The experimental tests havebeen simulated using MATLAB environment. The benchmarking analysis is accomplished by detecting our competitors in themarket. As well as comparing the performance of their products with respect ours.
