Optimizing efficiency in the assembly line of Biobizz by implementing improvements

BioBizz World Wide Organics is a fertilizer company interested in doing a technical study in reference to their current production facilities and methods. With this, the intention was to find those points where simple and cheap improvements would lead to greater efficiency in their processes. For this project is possible to define the structure focused on three main blocks. The first part is the research, followed by the specific case of BioBizz by mean describing the company and studying the production process. The last block then is the improvements, their proposal, definition, implementation and study. Also the planning for the project it is show in the APPENDIX XIV: Project planning. This way is easy to identify all the steps follow to reach the goals. Even the plan at the end, changed a little bit; all the steps described there have been performed. In order to define the points on which to work to improve, it was studied different methodologies used in industrial production today, to emphasize Lean manufacturing, which has been the main one followed in this project. Similarly, the project presents the relationship between product and production through different research. Thus, once it was understood the idea and relationship between product and production, the document goes through each elements and factors according to product and production in BioBizz. This means that in detail is described the different BioBizz products families, the facilities and material and employees movements, currently used to produce the final product. Also is described the different machines used in these facilities and the processes performed inside all spaces. Following this study, the project continues with the definition of the problem according to the research carried out. In order to solve these problems, there is an improvements proposal, part of this project that describe possible improvements as Lean philosophy recommends. Following the proposal and once discussed the improvements, comes the definition of these. Defined these improvements, which basically are focused on plant layout, order and machine preparation, those are implemented in the factory and then their impact is studied. The result of the improvements implemented is satisfactory. The organizers and tool boxes help to maintain order and reduce employee’s movements. The mobility of these elements increases also the flexibility in the line. The new sample production table allows manufacture 27 units more than the old one. Thanks to its design, which keeps fixed the baskets with empty samples and caps, its legs, which have adjustable height, makes produce samples more comfortably and ergonomically. To finish the document, there have been mentioned different following steps in order to improve further the production line. These steps also explain how to be undertaken.
