Validity of recurrent neural networks to predict pedal forces and lower limb kinetics in cycling
(2025-04)
Article
Open AccessDynamic variables contribute to understand the mechanics of pedalling and can assist with injury prevention. Measuring pedal forces and joint moments and powers has a high cost, which can be mitigated by using trained ... -
Exposure to Mars gravity is not sufficent to provide mitigating effects on orthostatic intolerance upon return to Earth
(International Astronautical Federation (IAF), 2024)
Conference lecture
Restricted access - publisher's policyIn this study we provide results from a simulation model (NELME: Numerical Estimation of Long-term Modified-gravity effects) of the underlying changes due to the cardiovascular system deconditioning under modified gravity ... -
Modelling of hepatic alterations health risks in long-term human space missions
(International Astronautical Federation (IAF), 2024)
Conference lecture
Restricted access - publisher's policyThe aim of this research was to investigate which are the long-term effects of microgravity exposure on the liver. It is expected that a certain amount of fibrosis may appear in very long-term missions with gravity exposure ... -
Adaptive learning web application to improve CAD learning in Engineering
(CAD Solutions, 2024-10-03)
Article
Open AccessAdaptive Learning using AI is crucial for improving students' comprehension of computer-aided design (CAD) subjects in engineering and adapts to adaptive learning styles by providing personalized content in a dynamic ... -
Decreased human sperm motility and vitality after fast gravity load changes in a parabolic flight
(Elsevier, 2024-10-01)
Article
Open AccessLittle is known about the effects of low gravity on human gametes. The aim of this study was to analyze if fresh human sperm samples after fast gravity load changes suffered any detrimental effect in comparison to the ... -
How effective is proximal fibular osteotomy in redistributing joint pressures? Insights from an HTO comparative in-silico study
(Springer, 2024-06-04)
Article
Open AccessBackground Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) represents a widespread degenerative condition among adults that significantly affects quality of life. This study aims to elucidate the biomechanical implications of proximal fibular ... -
In-silico study of the biomechanical effects of proximal-fibular osteotomy on knee joint contact pressure in varus-valgus misalignment
(2024-05-22)
Article
Open AccessThe aim of this work is to investigate in-silico the biomechanical effects of a proximal fibular osteotomy (PFO) on a knee joint with different varus/valgus deformities on the progression of knee osteoarthritis (KOA). A ... -
Optimal fibre length and maximum isometric force are the most influential parameters when modelling muscular adaptations to unloading using Hill-type muscle models
(Frontiers Media SA, 2024-04-17)
Article
Open AccessIntroduction: Spaceflight is associated with severe muscular adaptations with substantial inter-individual variability. A Hill-type muscle model is a common method to replicate muscle physiology in musculoskeletal simulations, ... -
Adaptive learning web application applied to Engineering Graphics teaching
(2024-02-02)
Part of book or chapter of book
Restricted access - publisher's policyAdaptive learning is a method that individualizes teaching-learning strategies according to learners’ needs and preferences. This paper describes the design, implementation, and testing of a web application developed using ... -
A novel computational framework for the estimation of internal musculoskeletal loading and muscle adaptation in hypogravity
(Frontiers Media SA, 2024-02-07)
Article
Open AccessIntroduction: Spaceflight is associated with substantial and variable musculoskeletal (MSK) adaptations. Characterisation of muscle and joint loading profiles can provide key information to better align exercise prescription ... -
Dynamics of lattice disorder in perovskite materials, polarization nanoclusters and ferroelectric domain wall structures
(Springer Nature, 2023-12-01)
Article
Open AccessThe nexus between classic ferroelectricity and the structure of perovskite materials hinges on the concept of lattice disorder. Although the ordered perovskites display short-range displacements of the central cations ... -
Real-time microscopy of the relaxation of a glass
(Springer Nature, 2023-01-01)
Article
Open AccessThe understanding of the dynamics of a glass above its devitrification temperature remains incomplete. Here, we build a spatio-temporal map of the relaxation dynamics of a highly stable glass into its supercooled liquid ...
