Statistical mechanics of bone damage: a constitutive model
(2025-05-03)
Article
Open AccessAfter the elastic regime is surpassed, cortical bone exhibits significant microcracking in its post-elastic mechanical behavior. This work develops a thermodynamically consistent, nonlinear constitutive model based on ... -
Effect of strain rate on the mechanical properties of human ribs: Insights from complete rib bending tests
(Elsevier, 2025-06)
Article
Restricted access - publisher's policyThis study reassesses the mechanical properties of cortical bone by conducting complete rib bending tests to evaluate the effect of strain rate (¿) on key mechanical parameters. The research involved specimens, divided ... -
Acoustic emission in bone biomechanics: A comprehensive review of mechanical properties and predictive damage modeling
(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), 2025-01-21)
Article
Open AccessThis review investigates the application of acoustic emission (AE) techniques in analyzing the mechanical properties and damage prediction of human bone. AE is a non-invasive and non-destructive evaluation method that ... -
Biomechanical perspectives on traumatic brain injury in the elderly: A comprehensive review
(2025-02-04)
Article
Restricted access - publisher's policyTraumatic brain injuries (TBIs) pose a significant health concern among the elderly population, influenced by age-related physiological changes and the prevalence of neurodegenerative diseases. Understanding the biomechanical ... -
Using acoustic emission to assess stiffness loss in thermoplastics processed through additive manufacturing
(Springer, 2025-04-11)
Article
Restricted access - publisher's policyThis study quantifies the relationship between acoustic emission (AE) and stiffness loss in the fused-filament microstructure of additively manufactured objects, considering the effect of tensile force direction as strain ... -
Design optimisation of high-rise buildings equipped with slb devices: a case study
(Curran Associates, Inc., 2024)
Conference report
Open AccessIn the last decades, the use of passive energy dissipation systems in civil structures has been widely increased to enhance a higher level of protection against earthquakes. A particular device, that belongs to the family ... -
Seismic damage assessment of concrete buildings including the contribution of infill masonry walls
(Curran Associates, Inc., 2024)
Conference report
Open AccessIn this research work, the seismic assessment of a 5-story building damaged during the Mw 5.1, May 11th 2011, Lorca earthquake (Murcia, Spain) is presented aiming to introduce an original and practical damage index, which ... -
A laboratory test aimed at demonstrating the potential of an Interferometric Radar to estimate the Seismic Risk of damaged buildings
(Curran Associates, Inc., 2024)
Conference report
Open AccessIn the last decade, the use of interferometric Real Aperture Radar (RAR) to carry out the survey of static and dynamical behaviour of civil structures, such as bridges, consolidated. In the case of urban buildings, due to ... -
Probabilistic parametric analysis of capacity, fragility and expected seismic damage of framed reinforced concrete buildings
(2025-03)
Article
Open Access1160 framed reinforced concrete buildings, holding 3–13 stories, have been modelled in a probabilistic way. Capacity spectra have been calculated and characterized by means of 5 parameters: initial stiffness, ultimate ... -
Seismic performance evaluation of an irregular and slender skyscraper utilising stiff dampers
(International Association for Earthquake Engineering, 2024)
Conference report
Restricted access - publisher's policyIn the last decade, there has been a growing trend in the popularity of skyscrapers characterised by their slender and irregular designs. This trend has introduced fresh challenges with regards to their seismic performance ... -
Advanced nonlinear soil-structure interaction model for the seismic analysis of safety-related nuclear structures
(2024-12)
Article
Open AccessThis article proposes an advanced nonlinear soil-structure interaction methodology, for the seismic analysis of a nuclear structure. To do so, a study is performed on a nuclear reinforced concrete structure considering the ... -
