Abstract
What intention should the drawing have in relation to what we have created? A drawing has to show what we want to explain, it has to reflect the intention, the purpose, the project, not only the reality. Consequently, a drawing canmanipulate and alter the truth. The representation must convey what is meant to be said, whether it is true or not. Hence the drawing can lie, even must lie. But it is a lie that intends to transmit the deep intention of what it wants to explain. This requires a previous work that combines what one wants to say and how. Examples from throughout the ages are used to explore this issue, based on John Berger’s book Ways of Seeing.
