Abstract
This project wants to improve an arm cast for a patient using advanced technology. On the one hand, we want to design a custom fit-arm cast very comfortable for patients. What is it used for? There are several situations in which a doctor may prescribe a hand cast for a patient: a sprain, a fracture, etc. Wearing a splint immobilize the limb or joint. Hand casts are often necessary to support rehabilitation. Inflammation of the joint or wear and tear of the cartilage, for example, causes pain that can be relieved by a brace. The aim is to immobilize a joint or limb for the time it takes to consolidate or heal, and then, if necessary, to regain function. Hand casts are generally worn continuously, but only for a short time. The patient's main concern is to regain the use of his hand, fingers or wrist as quickly as possible. Many of these hand casts are worn at night or during a particular task. How does it work? The hand cast immobilizes the joint or limb. This is the classic principle of the hand cast. Wearing an immobilizing hand cast at night will relieve painful tension and calm inflammation. Thirty years ago, orthotists made hand casts that were the same. In the past, hand casts only differed according to the main limbs: finger, hand and wrist. Today, with advances in knowledge, practices have evolved considerably, and hand cast have become much more varied. Alternatively, we can use synthetic resins, which are stronger and have the great advantage of being water resistant. In this report, we will begin by explaining the history of splints and why they are used. Next, we will show the different stages of project management. The design phase and the choice of material will be explained and analyzed below.
