Abstract
This research explores the potential of integrating Chinese Fujian Tulou’s collective housing principles into renovating abandoned bullrings in Catalonia, Spain, aiming to preserve cultural heritage and promote sustainable development. A comparative analysis of Fujian Tulou and Catalonian bullrings was conducted, focusing on layout, spatial organization, structural systems, and cultural connotations. Three design schemes based on Tulou concepts were proposed for bullring renovation, integrating traditional collective housing forms into contemporary public architecture to achieve functional diversification. Additionally, the study evaluated the feasibility and potential impacts of the proposed schemes on other abandoned bullrings in the region. This cross-cultural exploration provides new perspectives on protecting and innovating traditional architectural forms, contributing practical experiences to sustainable urban heritage development and East-West architectural integration.
