Abstract
In this work you will find detailed information about three main areas in which I have been working over the past six months: The characterization of photonic components aiming to reduce the energy consumption in access networks, the use of current measurements devices for future optical networks and the research of the use of hollow core fibre in the same environments as wells as some of their impairments. This work includes the reasons behind researching these areas, some previous work made in each field, the methodology employed, and the report of various experimental works conducted. At the conclusion of each topic, a general summary highlighting the key findings and takeaways from that particular area of work.
