El principio del siglo XX fue testigo del nacimiento de las vanguardias en diferentes ciudades. La Ciudad de México no fue la excepción. Un día de diciembre de 1921, aparecen carteles en el centro de esta ciudad con el primer manifiesto estridentista, la vanguardia actualista. El estridentismo, integrado por jóvenes poetas y artistas gráficos, nace el turbulento México posrevolucionario caracterizado por ser una época de cambio que intenta, sin tener mucho éxito, estabilizar las estructuras políticas y sociales, por lo tanto, es una época de constantes transformaciones a nivel político, social, artístico y urbano; es también una época en la que se introducen nuevas tecnologías al país en materia de comunicación, transporte e infraestructura.
La poesía estridentista se aprovecha de esta turbulencia para romper con las formas estilísticas que se usaban para escribir poesía en el pasado, junto con esta ruptura proponen nuevos temas de los que hablar, siendo su tema central, la naciente ciudad moderna, dentro también, de un contexto internacional artístico en donde los movimientos vanguardistas en diferentes ciudades ya estaban utilizando este tema en común. Este trabajo tiene la intención de relacionar la obra estridentista con el territorio físico y cultural que los rodeaba: la Ciudad de México. Entonces se genera un doble propósito, por una parte, estudiar al estridentismo como movimiento literario y artístico y, por otra parte, estudiar la Ciudad de México de los años veinte desde la visión estridentista, resultando así un análisis entre la ciudad real, la ciudad imaginaria y la ciudad anhelada. Así pues, a través del material primario de este grupo- conformado por escritos, grabados, ilustraciones, manifiestos-, planos y fotografías de la CDMX en la década de los veinte se puede recrear los itinerarios estridentistas, los cuales son pieza clave para el propósito de este trabajo.
The beginning of the 20th century witnessed the emergence of the avant-garde movements in different cities. Mexico City was no exception. One day of December 1921, posters appeared in the buildings of this city with the first manifesto of Stridentism, the mexican avant-garde movement. Stridentism, comprised of young poets and graphic artists, emerged in the turbulent post-revolutionary Mexico characterized by being a period of change attempting, though with little success, to stabilize political and social structures. Therefore, it was a time of constant transformations on political, social, artistic, and urban levels; it was also a period when new technologies were introduced to the country in terms of communication, transportation, and infrastructure.
Stridentist poetry took advantage of this turbulence to break with the stylistic forms used in past poetry writing, and along with this rupture, they proposed new themes to discuss, with the central theme being the emerging modern city. This occurred within an international artistic context where avant-garde movements in different cities were already using this common theme. This work aims to relate Stridentist work to the physical and cultural territory surrounding them: Mexico City. Thus, it generates a dual purpose; on the one hand, studying Stridentism as a literary and artistic movement, and on the other hand, studying Mexico City in the twenties from the Stridentist perspective, resulting in an analysis between the real city, the imaginary city, and the desired city. Therefore, through the primary material of this group—comprising writings, engravings, illustrations, manifestos—maps, and photographs of Mexico City in the twenties, it is possible to recreate the Stridentist itineraries, which are a key element for the purpose of this work.
