Abstract
n recent years, the demand for transit in Europe has surged, driven by factors such as globalisation, increased business travel, and expanding tourism. Despite the continent showcasing an abundance of airports and a robust aviation infrastructure, certain regions still face with congestion issues, impeding the smooth flow of air traffic. Identifying these congestion hot spots and strategies for improved air communication it is really important to make Europe’s transportation system work its best and help the environment grow. This project address these challenges by conducting a comprehensive assessment of transit demand and proposing the development of a new regional airport in a strategic location. After careful consideration and analysis, Sarand¨e, a vibrant city in southern Albania, emerged as the ideal site for the proposed airport. With its increasing economic prospects, Sarand¨e presents a unique opportunity to establish a new aviation hub that provides the needs of both domestic and international travellers. To evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed airport, we conducted thorough research to forecast traffic demand for the design year of 2037, following IATA and ICAO guidelines. Using advanced modelling techniques and considering a range of socio-economic factors, we projected the anticipated number of aircraft operations and passenger volumes. These projections were very important when defining the airside and landside infrastructure of the airport. Additionally, the final step of our project involved conducting an economic study and assessing the social and environmental impacts. This comprehensive approach ensures that the airport not only meets future demand but also aligns with international standards and promotes sustainable development. In short, this project takes a balanced approach to airport development, covering all aspects like technology, environment, and society. With a good planing, the proposed Sarand¨e airport could boost the economy, improve connections, and support social progress in southern Albania and even further.
