Les ruïnes han estat presents durant segles en la història de l’arquitectura i han servit com a font de coneixement i d’evolució. Les runes, en canvi, mai han estat considerades d’interès i hem acabat per desfer-nos d’elles. El present que vivim no és a temps de generar ruïnes, de manera que ara més que mai, ens envolten les runes. Però, ¿què les diferencia, realment, l’una de l’altra? I quina actitud, com arquitectes, adoptem davant d’aquesta realitat? Poden les runes esdevenir alguna cosa amb més potencial que uns simples enderrocs?
Les relacions entre aquests dos termes obren la porta a noves interpretacions en l’actualitat. Mitjançant la desestigmatització del terme runa s’estén un ventall de possibilitats projectuals i conceptuals per repensar l’arquitectura, en un context social i ecològic que augura canvis indispensables en els patrons de construcció i destrucció dels nostres entorns.

Los escombros, en cambio, nunca han sido considerados de interés y hemos acabado para deshacernos de ellos. El presente que vivimos no está a tiempo de generar ruinas, de forma que ahora, más que nunca, nos rodean los escombros. Pero, ¿qué los diferencia, realmente, el uno del otro? ¿Y qué actitud, como arquitectas, adoptamos ante esta realidad? ¿Pueden los escombros acontecer algo con más potencial que unos simples desechos?
Las relaciones entre estos dos términos abren la puerta a nuevas interpretaciones en la actualidad. Mediante la desestigmatización del término escombro se extiende un abanico de posibilidades proyectuales y conceptuales para repensar la arquitectura, en un contexto social y ecológico que augura cambios indispensables en los patrones de construcción y destrucción de nuestros entornos.
Ruins have been present for centuries in the history of architecture and have served as a source of knowledge and evolution. Rubble, on the other hand, has never been considered of interest and we have ended up getting rid of them. The present in which we live is not in time to generate ruins, so now more than ever we are surrounded by rubble. But what is it that really differentiates them from each other? And what attitude do we, as architects, adopt in the face of this reality? Can rubble become something with more potential than mere debris?
The relationship between these two terms today opens the door to new interpretations. Through the de-stigmatization of the term rubble, a range of design and conceptual possibilities for rethinking architecture expands, in a social and ecological context that portends essential changes in the patterns of construction and destruction of our environments.
