L'activitat de recerca del grup s'articula al voltant de les quatre línies de treball següents:
Enginyeria de serveis. Tracta del disseny i de la gestió d’aplicacions i serveis TIC. Un dels tòpics que ha rebut especial atenció en els darrers anys es la creació de FitSM, un estàndard simplificat de gestió de serveis de tecnologies de la informació.
Gestió de xarxes i recursos. S’enfoca al desenvolupament i utilització de conceptes com SDN i NFV per assolir els reptes que presenten les xarxes de telecomunicacions actuals i més en particular Internet.
Perspectiva econòmica i de negoci dels serveis de telecomunicació. S’orienta a la investigació de tècniques i metodologies que vinculen la tecnologia amb la finalitat última dels serveis TIC que es la de proporcionar valor al negoci que suporta.
Tecnologies facilitadores que son les que permeten fer realitat els nous paradigmes de gestió. En aquest context cal destacar la intel·ligència artificial aplicada a la gestió de xarxes i serveis.

El MAPS centra sus objetivos científicos y tecnológicos en el ámbito de la Ingeniería de Servicios, incluyendo la creación, despliegue y gestión de servicios de información. Asimismo, los aspectos que en este ámbito merecen especial atención incluyen las políticas y determinación de precios de servicios; la gestión distribuida de servicios, redes y recursos de soporte; la sensibilidad al contexto y su utilización en los servicios ubícuos; la gestión basada en políticas y otras tecnologías que faciliten los sistemas de comunicación autónomos.
