The research group develops its activity in two basic aspects from teh materials science. On the one hand, the group studies the thermal behaviour of ferromagnetic alloys and ono the other, the static and dynami properties of complex dielectric materials made up of liquid crystals and liquids crystrals confined to micro and nanostructured systems.

Liquid Crystals
(Springer, 2021-05-23)
Part of book or chapter of book
Open AccessThe tricritical and the re-entrant nematic behaviour are two of the most relevant features of the Smectic A (SmA)-to-Nematic (N) phase transition in binary mixtures of liquid crystals. Both of these concepts are studied ... -
Controllable coherent backscattering of light in disordered media filled with liquid crystal
(2018-05-09)
Article
Open AccessWe have investigated multiple scattering of light in a disordered system based on liquid crystals for a temperature-controllable random laser. Coherent backscattering measurements at several temperatures have been well ... -
Order parameters and time evolution of mesophases in the lyotropic chromonic liquid crystal Sunset Yellow FCF by DNMR
(2018-09-21)
Article
Open AccessUniaxial order parameters of the nematic and columnar mesophases in the lyotropic chromonic liquid crystal Sunset Yellow FCF have been determined from deuteron nuclear magnetic resonance, where random confinement of the ... -
Cooperative behavior of molecular motions giving rise to two glass transitions in the same supercooled mesophase of a smectogenic liquid crystal dimer
(American Chemical Society (ACS), 2018-01-17)
Article
Restricted access - publisher's policyIn the present work, a detailed analysis of the glassy behavior and the relaxation dynamics of the liquid crystal dimer a-(4-cyanobiphenyl-4'-yloxy)-¿-(1-pyrenimine-benzylidene-4'-oxy) heptane (CBO7O.Py) throughout both ... -
Influence of internal flexibility on the double glass transition in a series of odd non-symmetric liquid crystal dimers characterised by dielectric measurements
(2017-04-11)
Article
Open AccessDielectric measurements (thermally stimulated depolarisation currents and broadband dielectric spectroscopy) have been performed near the glass transition to study the glass transition on the odd non-symmetric liquid crystal ... -
Influence of liquid crystalline phases on the tunability of a random laser
(American Chemical Society (ACS), 2017-05-30)
Article
Restricted access - publisher's policyIn this paper, we report the temperature behavior of an optimized disordered photonic system-based liquid crystal by means of heat capacity and refractive index measurements. The scattering system is formed by a porous ... -
Distinctive dielectric properties of nematic liquid crystal dimers
(2017-01-01)
Article
Open AccessWe provide an overview of the effect of the molecular structure on the dielectric properties of dimers exhibiting nematic and twist-bend nematic phases with special focus on how the conformational distribution changes are ... -
Explosion of white dwarfs harboring hybrid CONe cores
(EDP Sciences, 2016-04-12)
Article
Open AccessRecently, it has been found that off-center carbon burning in a subset of intermediate-mass stars does not propagate all the way to the center, resulting in a class of hybrid CONe cores. The implications of a significant ... -
Gamma-ray emission from SN2014J near maximum optical light
(EDP Sciences, 2016-04)
Article
Open AccessContext. The optical light curve of Type Ia supernovae (SNIa) is powered by thermalized gamma-rays produced by the decay of 56Ni and 56Co, the main radioactive isotopes synthesized by the thermonuclear explosion of a C/O ... -
Gamma rays from Type Ia supernova SN 2014j
(2015-10-08)
Article
Open AccessThe whole set of INTEGRAL observations of Type Ia supernova SN 2014J, covering the period 19–162 days after the explosion, has been analyzed. For spectral fitting the data are split into early and late periods covering ... -
A Chandrasekhar mass progenitor for the type Ia supernova remnant 3C 397 from the enhanced abundances of nickel and manganese
(2015-03-12)
Article
Restricted access - publisher's policyDespite decades of intense efforts, many fundamental aspects of Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) remain elusive. One of the major open questions is whether the mass of an exploding white dwarf (WD) is close to the Chandrasekhar ... -
Dielectric, calorimetric and mesophase properties of 1 ''-(2 ',4-difluorobiphenyl-4 '-yloxy)-9 ''-(4-cyano-biphenyl-4 '-yloxy) nonane: an odd liquid crystal dimer with a monotropic mesophase having the characteristics of a twist-bend nematic phase
(2014-10-21)
Article
Restricted access - publisher's policyThis paper reports a novel liquid crystal phase having the characteristics of a twist-bend nematic phase formed by a non-symmetric ether-linked liquid crystal dimer. The dimer 1 ''-(2',4-difluorobiphenyl-4'-yloxy)-9 ...
