Abstract
The main purpose of this study is to find the composition of matirials which optimises the resistance of a rope at a competitive cost taking into account the inestbility in the price of materials that we have been suffering lately. Thus facilitating the production for manufacturers and, consequently, the access to most consumers, which, at the end of the day, is the most important aspect. One of the main goals of this study, is to bring an innovating approach to the rope industry, since there hasn't been found any study of this kind in the sector. In order to do son, we have firstly done a theoretical study of the types of ropes that can be made. Once we have decided the type of rope that is going too be analyzed, we have worked on it's fabrication and then have subjected in to a tensile test at the university. Latter, we have analyzed and compared the results, and these have shown how the twistting process provides greater elasticity to the sample. After that, we have repeated the methodology using the structure of rope that has proven to be optimal but now switching it's composition of materials between polyester, dynemma and Kevlar. The results from this second round have allowed us to compare the maximum loads supported depending on the rope structure. Another thing that we didn't know and that has become evident after the test, has been the behaviour each and every one of the rope samples. The choseen methodology for the fabrication of the samples, has been a 1x1 structure. This structure obtains a resistance 6'9% lower then the structure with maximum resistance, but it has an-11,6% less of fabrication cost, for this reason, the following samples will be done in a 1x1 structure. The results obtained from the last direct tensile test have served us to compare the different yields of the manufactured ropes. We have observed that the rope that has the greatest resistance and the least elasticity is the rope made up of 30% Dynemma and 70% Polyester.
