Abstract
This thesis carries out automations and metrics in the DNG (Doors Next Generation) software, a software developed by IBM, to better analyse and standardise the FMECA (Failure mode effects and criticalness analysis) analysis of a railway system. The FMECA analysis is a process that organizes the system failure modes, how these failures affect the service quality of the system and what RAM (Reliability Availability and Maintainability) requirements should be implemented to prevent these failures. The firsts chapters of this thesis go through what a railway system is, and which disciplines are the most important when it comes to manage a railway system, which are interface, requirement, safety, and RAM management. Next up, this thesis exposes what a FMECA is and how through the identification of the most critical failure modes of a system, companies can prevent them, and decrease the time and costs invested in a railway project. Following, in this thesis a data model for the RAM management of a railway system is developed. Later it is implemented into the DNG software to perform two widgets and a report. This thesis concludes that with the method, widgets and the report developed, companies could spend 20 to 30 percent less time developing the FMECA of a project and developing it with less mistakes, therefor decreasing the costs of the project. Therefore, the initial investment of 7.564,65€ to this project will lead into decreasing the costs of future projects
