Abstract
The following final degree project is intended to study the aerodynamic function of a motorcycle helmet. Starting from a conventional base model in CAD or STEP format, the aerodynamic simulation will be performed using the help of CFD (computational fluid dynamics) software, specifically the "Hyperworks CFD 2021" from Altair company.
The purpose is to apply a set of ideas and tweaks in the base model, without modifying the structure of the helmet, that is, without retouching the basic shape of the helmet, achieve the reduction of aerodynamic drag, achieve reduction of vortices that cause noise and vibration, and improve downstream flow.
Different CAD proposals will be made and for each one, a simulation will be done with the HyperWorks CFD 2021 program. the terms that have improved and the terms that have gotten worse will be analysed in comparison with the other models, especially compared to base model.
At the end, a final model will be chosen, according to the analysis that has been taken, taking into account the best improvement in terms of aerodynamics. A final comparison will be done with the basic model initially proposed. Then, from the CFD’s own study, a list of final proposals will be made that can be applied to further improve the helmet.
