This paper presents Merlí, a modular, data-type oriented programming language designed to support a prototyping software process model with the help of a programming environment, Excalibur. The language is a multiparadigm one, blending equational and imperative styles into a unique notation. The focus of the paper is to describe the most relevant features of the language, including some constructions to relate imperative programs with specifications. The result permits the development of applications as a sequence of prototypes, all of them executable even if they combine equational parts with imperative ones.
