Abstract
There is a critical situation in the world. In 1960 there were 300 000 jaguars and today there are only 15 000. This means that in the last 60 years the number of jaguars in the whole world has decreased by 95%. This means that there are only 5% of jaguars left on the planet. The rangers working in the Mamiraua reserve in Amazonia, in order to attach collars to jaguars, they catch the animals in traps. Each trap has a radio transmitter with different frequency attached to it. In order to monitor the traps, they need to travel to the forest up to four times a day every six hours and two of those traps are intended for going physically to the traps. During the expedition to the jungle they need multiple people and they have to waste petrol and electricity. In order to distinguish transmitters one of the rangers must physically listen to the signal through radio receiver and headphones. The person listening has a list of all transmitters with location and frequency. Next problem is the human error. It may happen that the person listening can pick up the wrong signal and there might be a jaguar waiting to be rescued. There may be also a situation where a jaguar might be trapped for hours before rangers come. This solution is wasting a lot of resources and puts animals under pressure, because the traps are checked every six hours. Currently there are under 15 traps in deployment every season (each season lasts 4 months), so on average every expedition to the jungle lasts for two hours. The current workflow of the Rangers is lengthy and unoptimized. There are many factors that can influence the correct identification of the signal, such as: human error, signal noise, faulty radio, etc. There is obviously a lot of room for improvement.
