Our research is oriented toward non-linear control systems, and particularly toward non-linear control of power electronics converters and systems. Controllers are implemented by means of analog or digital solutions, using in this case, digital signal processors. Our research group is specialized in Uninterruptible Power Systems, Active Filters, Multilevel Converters, etc. Our research results are transferred to private companies, and supported by contract.

Collaborative voltage unbalance compensation in islanded AC microgrids with grid-forming inverters
(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2022-04-25)
Article
Open AccessThe presence of unbalanced loads in power systems creates voltage imbalances that perturb the operation of sensitive loads like induction motors, power electronics converters and adjustable speed drives. This paper presents ... -
Methodology for obtaining simplified models for the long-term energy management of renewable assets under a high degree of uncertainty
(Elsevier, 2022-11)
Article
Open AccessThis paper addresses the attainment of a methodology aimed at obtaining simplified models embedding the regulatory constraints imposed by the country-specific remuneration mechanisms in the energy management system of long ... -
Decoupled simultaneous complex power sharing and voltage regulation in islanded AC microgrids
(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2022-06-07)
Article
Restricted access - publisher's policyIn islanded AC microgrids, when multiple voltage source inverters (VSIs) operate in parallel, it is challenging to simultaneously obtain both accurate complex (active and reactive) power sharing and voltage regulation (in ... -
Constrained predictive control based on a large-signal model for a three-phase inverter connected to a microgrid
(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2022-07-21)
Article
Open AccessSmall-signal models are the mostly used to model and design in inverter-dominated microgrids. Conversely, this paper proposes a large-signal model for grid-forming inverters connected to a microgrid based on the active and ... -
Renewables with energy storage: A time-series socioeconomic model for business and welfare analysis
(Elsevier, 2021-11-27)
Article
Restricted access - publisher's policyThis paper seeks to quantify the effects of the increasing penetration level of renewable distributed generation and energy storage systems on the regulated electricity market over time. More specifically, the emphasis is ... -
Control scheme for negative-sequence voltage compensation and current sharing in inverter-based grid-connected microgrids
(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2022-01-06)
Article
Restricted access - publisher's policyThis paper presents a control scheme that simultaneously solves the problems of negative-sequence voltage compensation and negative-sequence current sharing in grid-connected microgrids using grid-feeding inverters. ... -
Distributed direct power sliding-mode control for islanded AC microgrids
(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2021-12-21)
Article
Restricted access - publisher's policyThe aim of this paper is to develop a novel distributed direct power sliding-mode control for an islanded AC microgrid. This solution replaces the droop mechanism of each inverter with two separate sliding surfaces working ... -
Reliability and energy costs analysis of a rural hybrid microgrid using measured data and battery dynamics: a case study in the coast of Perú
(2021-10-06)
Article
Open AccessHybrid microgrids constitute a promising solution for filling the electricity access gap that currently exists in rural areas; however, there is still relatively little information about their reliability and costs based ... -
Dual-loop continuous control set model predictive control for a three-phase unity power factor rectifier
(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2021-08-24)
Article
Restricted access - publisher's policyIn this paper, a novel cascade model predictive control for a three-phase unity power factor rectifier is presented. Unlike the traditional control techniques for rectifiers, the proposed method uses a cascade dual-model ... -
Effects of clock deviations on the performance of microgrids based on virtual synchronous generators
(2021-11-04)
Article
Open AccessAn inverter-based microgrid is a small-scale power network governed by a distributed con-trol system. In this system, the nodes are the digital controllers of the power inverters, normally located at separate points within ... -
Monte-Carlo probabilistic valuation of concentrated solar power systems in Spain under the 2014 retroactive regulatory framework
(2021-03-01)
Article
Restricted access - publisher's policyThe current Royal Decree 413/2014 legal-economic framework for concentrating solar power plants in Spain has been analysed from a probabilistic perspective. Due to the high inherent risk in most of the parameters defining ... -
