Biodegradable metallic zinc alloys for biomedical applications
(2022-06-16)
Conference lecture
Open AccessBiodegradable metals, such as zinc (Zn) appear to overcome some of the drawbacks of permanent metallic implants. However, the uncontrolled biodegradation of Zn-alloyed materials is still a concern for biomedical applications ... -
Direct laser interference patterning for photocatalytically active self-cleaning surfaces
(2022-06-16)
Conference lecture
Open AccessLaser surface structuring has long proven to be a suitable tool to produce surfaces that repel both water and bacteria on actively antibacterial and inert surfaces. As a mostly undesired side effect, the laser induced ... -
Advanced characterization techniques for high-angular and high-spatial resolutions in the scanning electron microscope
(2022-06-16)
Conference lecture
Open AccessHigh-angular resolution electron diffraction-based techniques aim at measuring relative lattice rotations and elastic strains with an accuracy about 1.10-4 (<0.01°) in the scanning electron microscope (SEM). These metrics ... -
Crystal structure and chemistry of barium-graphite intercalation compounds
(2022-06-16)
Conference lecture
Open AccessGraphite can accommodate various chemical species between graphene layers to form graphite intercalation compounds (GIC) [1]. Alkali metals can easily lead to bulk stage-1 intercalation compounds by vapor transport but for ... -
Triggering new deformation mechanism in Ti alloys by heat treatments: a step forward into the improvement of the ductility and work-hardening of 3D printed parts
(2022-06-16)
Conference lecture
Open AccessThe plastic behavior of Ti alloys remains a major drawback: indeed “classical” Ti-based materials usually display a low work hardening rate, bringing rapid strain localization and low ductility level. Moreover, with the ... -
Correlating rheological properties with direct ink writing printability in hydrogel – calcium phosphate slurries: effect of polymeric and ceramic content
(2022-06-16)
Conference lecture
Open AccessDirect Ink Writing enables the fabrication of personalized scaffolds for bone tissue engineering. The ink must be smoothly extruded through a narrow nozzle without clogging to form continuous filaments, which must retain ... -
PVA/ alginate/ tannic acid crosslinked aerogels with low flammability and high mechanical resistance
(2022-06-16)
Conference lecture
Open AccessAerogels are ultra-light, highly porous materials derived from gels in which the solvent has been replaced by gas. Aerogels based on renewable and biodegradable materials are gained attention as environmentally friendly ... -
Cold-spray of aluminium with and without ceramic combined with plasma electrolytic oxidation
(2022-06-16)
Conference lecture
Open AccessCold spraying is developing rapidly and has a wide spectrum of applications: protection against corrosion, preparation of high conductivity coatings, repair of damaged metal components, metal additive manufacturing, thermal ... -
Optimisation of pyrolysis parameters for CF composites with respect to mechanical properties of recovered fibers
(2022-06-16)
Conference lecture
Open AccessThe aerospace/aeronautics, energy and automotive industries are the primary users of advanced polymer composites in structural components. Increasing number of those components are reaching End of Life and will be disposed ... -
Impact of dissolution of cast tungsten carbide on the wear behavior of CTC/Ni metal matrix composites
(2022-06-16)
Conference lecture
Open AccessCast tungsten carbide (CTC) consists in a biphasic structure of WC lamellae in a W2C matrix resulting from the eutectoid decomposition of W-3.9 wt.% C. Hardfacing of steel tools is the main industrial application of CTC ... -
Micropatterned 3D-printed PLLA/PLCL bioresorsable stents: degradation and influence of sterilization
(2022-06-16)
Conference lecture
Open AccessBioresorbable stents (BRS) are cylindrical scaffolds designed to provide a temporary support to the vessel wall while the structure slowly degrades until completely resorbed [1]. Current stent fabrication technology hinders ... -
High added value rubber composites and thermoplastic elastomers as strategies to recycle wastes rubber
(2022-06-16)
Conference lecture
Open AccessReducing the environmental impact of the polymers production using bio-based plastics and rubber wastes valorization, are two essential ways of reversing the negative impact of the polymer industry on the environment [1]. ...
