Abstract
The aim of this project is to analyze the methodologies of the handling operations at Barcelona¿s airport, and for this purpose the handling methodology of two airlines with the largest number of operations have been taken into account. The handling methods used differ in that one of them performs the baggage loading and unloading tasks with the same team, while the other employs two teams, each with an assigned task. These tasks are always loading and unloading. In order to draw conclusions about which methodology is more efficient, a Python code has been developed with the aim of generating efficient routes, based on the cost of time between journeys. Once the routes have been created, the requirements of each one are calculated. Consisting of the minimum number of employees or equipment required, which will vary according to the type of methodology used. Results have been obtained for two different airports, the first being Mahon and the second Barcelona¿s airport. Not only have different airports been compared, but there have also been modifications in the number of parking stands used in order to see how these manipulations affect the routes generated by the code. Different conclusions have been obtained for each, reinforcing the idea that one of the methods is effective for different airport dimensions. Methodology B has been shown to be better for larger airports, while method A has been shown to be better for smaller airports. This is due to the methodology of operating and transporting the baggage, as the greater the distance between parking and the luggage carousel, the longer the travel time of the equipment.
