Abstract
Commercial aviation has developed intensively in recent decades, due to the rise of low-cost airlines and globalization. One of the consequences of the high growth is the increase in greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere. Due to these high emissions and the high price of fuel, dozens of companies and organizations in the aeronautical sector have put all their efforts into to find solutions in order to optimize trajectories and minimize fuel consumption. One of the key elements of trajectory optimization is the BADA (Base of Aircraft Data) model. Eurocontrol has been developing this model for decades, which is the world leader in trajectory prediction and simulation, with more than 1,000 users worldwide. This project aims to give a different approach to optimization, prioritizing the study of the current situation, since one of the bases of optimization consists on identifying the main current problem, in order to focus resources and efforts on it. This project consists of developing a program that allows us to study each of the trajectories independently, in order to review how the aircraft performs, and understand which phases of flight are most susceptible to improvement. In addition, it allows us to see the global scenario, with all the trajectories, the occupation of the operational sectorizations, and the conflicts between them, keeping in mind that the big problem when developing more efficient and direct routes is airspace congestion, and the strict regulations to comply with. Throughout the entire project, the files with which it has been dealt with are explained, how the trajectories and the occupation of the sectorizations have been calculated, and at the end of it some ideas are presented on how to improve this work for future research.
