Abstract
This paper presents an experimental modal test of a Kaplan turbine model and provides the corresponding analysis of the results. The modal test, which included both the runner and the shaft line, was performed using an impact hammer and a shaker as exciters and several accelerometers as sensors. Additionally, a numerical model of the Kaplan turbine has been built and validated in air. By comparing the numerical and experimental results, the main modes of vibration of the rotor and a runner blade in dry conditions have been identified and discussed. Finally, the rotor has also been tested in wet conditions (still water), and the results have been compared with those calculated from a numericalmodelincluding water as an acoustic domain.
