El grup realitza recerca en mecànica de sòls i de les roques i en l?àmbit de la geomecànica en general. També és actiu en un ampli espectre de matèries d'enginyeria geològica i geotècnica, com ara l?estabilitat de talussos, els fonaments, les excavacions, els túnels, l?avaluació de riscos geològics i l?emmagatzematge de residus. La seva activitat en la mecànica de sòls no saturats i l?aplicació de mètodes numèrics avançats és àmpliament reconeguda.
