El grup realitza recerca en mecànica de sòls i de les roques i en l'àmbit de la geomecànica en general. També és actiu en un ampli espectre de matèries d'enginyeria geològica i geotècnica, com ara l'estabilitat de talussos, els fonaments, les excavacions, els túnels, l'avaluació de riscos geològics i l'emmagatzematge de residus. La seva activitat en la mecànica de sòls no saturats i l'aplicació de mètodes numèrics avançats és àmpliament reconeguda.

The group carries out research in soil and rock mechanics and in the field of geomechanics in general. It is also active in a wide range of geological and geotechnical engineering fields, such as slope stability, foundations, excavations, tunnels, the evaluation of geological risks, and waste disposal.
