Abstract
In Barcelona there have been an average of 4000 fires and explosions per year since 2001. For this reason, in the last year 3788 interventions were carried out by the Firefighters1. As you can see, it is confirmed that fire continues to be a serious challenge, not only in forest areas, but also in urban areas. The urban pattern of Barcelona is made up of a multitude of frames, of different sizes and shapes, from the Llobregat river to the Besós river. However, in some districts of the city this pattern becomes regular and patterned, giving rise to construction typologies that are repeated over and over again. Knowing the behavior of fire in these recurring typologies can help to avoid –or minimize– the damage caused to a much higher percentage of buildings than if we studied a particular or unique construction typology. Far from believing that there is a solution, this work provides data and ideas of interest, both for fire prevention technicians and for building users.
