Abstract
Within the 5G framework, the goal of this Master thesis is to propose a system able to encompass both high data rates for enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) with high availability and reliability for ultra-reliable and low-latency communications (URLLC) services in an environment like an underground tunnel for different telecom operators with distinct assigned network slices. A massive multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) beamforming antenna in millimeter waves (mmWave) is proposed in order to make use of large bandwidths, leading to a high capacity system that could meet the specific requirements for the services that should be supported in a subway network. Two types of antennas, a planar and a semicylindrical array, are analytically studied and numerically analysed in a model of a tunnel section between two stations of the Barcelona's underground network. This thesis includes a parametric study of the scenario where the system is deployed with ray-tracing (RT) simulations. Further on, in these simulations the far-field patterns of the designed two antennas are included. Finally, the received power profile along the trajectory of the train is obtained.
