LIAM - Laboratori de Modelització i Anàlisi de la Informació
The objectives of the researchers working at the laboratory are the following: 1. To strengthen the IT skills of academics and other UPC staff who have been working in the fields of modelling, simulation, multivariate analysis of data and information management, so that, as a result of the complementary character of these disciplines, they are able to undertake projects that are more long-term and wider in scope. 2. To carry out research and methodological innovation in the aforementioned fields and their implementation in computer science systems for the solution of scientific and business problems raised by the information society. 3. To take on European leadership in subjects like modelling, simulation, data mining and information analysis. To this end, the participation in European and Spanish research projects is promoted, as are agreements with companies and institutions in the socioeconomic environment. 4. Once lecturers and researchers have initiated a project, the Laboratory tries to engage other lec

Open AccessA concrete classification algorithm may perform differently on datasets with different characteristics, e.g., it might perform better on a dataset with continuous attributes rather than with categorical attributes, or the ... -
Modelling and analysis of intermodal passenger operations in a cruise terminal to prevent traffic congestion and enhance quality of service using discrete event simulation
(2018)
Conference report
Restricted access - publisher's policyIn this paper we present a discrete event simulation model of a cruise terminal for decision support and strategic planning. The main objective is to provide an analysis tool for systems with high capacity constraints, ... -
The Pathmox approach for PLS path modeling: discovering which constructs differentiate segments
(2017-11)
Article
Open AccessThe problem of heterogeneity represents a very important issue in the decision-making process. Furthermore, it has become common practice in the context of marketing research to assume that different population parameters ... -

On the predictive power of meta-features in OpenML
(2017-12-20)
Article
Open AccessThe demand for performing data analysis is steadily rising. As a consequence, people of different profiles (i.e., non-experienced users) have started to analyze their data. However, this is challenging for them. A key step ... -

Local and partial correspondence analysis application to the analysis of electoral data
(1985-07)
Research report
Open AccessIn data analysis we must often analyze data sets whose observations are related by a graph structure. This is the case for electoral data, where the electoral units correspond to a definite geographical areas. In this case ... -
