Abstract
This thesis report presents the complete development of an energy community operation mathematical program, followed by its implementation on Matlab. The main objective is to design an energy community that manages multiple public buildings within the geographical scope of the province of Barcelona, in order to learn whether joint operation is profitable or not.To start with, the topic of energy communities is fully developed in Chapter 4, including an extensive review of the most recent legislative framework and the presentation of their most relevant technical characteristics. The importance of energy communities regarding environmental and social benefits is explored in the same section. The setting of the present paper, which is the municipality of Olost, is presented in Chapter 5. Afterwards, the multiobjective optimisation model is described in Chapter 6. Pareto theory will be considered here in order to obtain a scalarised function. Weighting functions will be introduced, and the optimisation criteria considered will be four: financial, environmental, battery operation and grid service provision. Then, data acquisition in Chapter 7 will involve all data collection processes, from building loads and solar production profiles to battery-related data and emission factors. The implementation on numeric computing software is presented in Chapter 8. Three cases have been considered here: the base case, ensued by a sensitivity analysis and the later implementation of a rolling horizon with inputs affected by arbitrariness.
