The recent increase of photovoltaic power generation to satisfy the increasing global electrical demand may affect the power grid reliability due to its dynamic energy source. So, power plant controls are necessary to ensure the compliance of ramp rate limitations imposed by the grid codes. This thesis presents a model of a PV plant and a study of the battery maximum power and capacity requirement, depending on photovoltaic plant size and geographical dispersion, for an appropriate ramp rate control. A direct ramp rate control strategy based on battery support functionality for active power setpoint compliance is used. In order to verify the model, simulations with 300 MW real PV plant data have been made.
