LEAM - Laboratori d'Enginyeria Acústica i Mecànica

A 2.5D coupled FEM–SBM methodology for soil–structure dynamic interaction problems
(Elsevier, 2022-01-01)
Article
Open AccessIn this paper, a novel numerical methodology to deal with longitudinally invariant soil–structure interaction problems is proposed. The methodology uses the finite element method to model the structure and the singular ... -
A predictive model for fracture in human ribs based on in-vitro acoustic emission data
(2021-09-01)
Article
Restricted access - publisher's policyPurpose The aim of this paper is to propose a fracture model for human ribs based on acoustic emission (AE) data. The accumulation of microcracking until a macroscopic crack is produced can be monitored by AE. The ... -
Assessment of dynamic vibration absorbers efficiency as a countermeasure for ground-borne vibrations induced by train traffic in double-deck tunnels using an energy flow criterion
(Springer, 2019)
Conference report
Restricted access - publisher's policyDouble-deck tunnels are an innovative tunnel layout design useful to enhance the efficiency of underground railway transportation systems in which the tunnel is divided into two sections by an interior floor. However, ... -
Assessment of dynamic vibration absorber efficiency as a countermeasure for ground-borne vibrations induced by train pass-by in double-deck tunnels using an energy flow criterion
(2019)
Conference report
Restricted access - publisher's policyThe environmental problems due to ground-borne vibrations induced by underground railway traffic are an issue of growing concern in urban areas as the demand for underground railway network has been increased. The demand ... -
Analysis of Different Cylindrical Magnet and Coil Configurations for Electromagnetic Vibration Energy Harvesters
(2021-06-01)
Article
Open AccessElectromagnetic vibration energy harvesting is a relatively new technology that transforms kinetic energy from mechanical vibrations into electrical energy, allowing the substitution of batteries or cables for powering ... -
An experimental/numerical hybrid methodology for the prediction of railway-induced ground-borne vibration on buildings to be constructed close to existing railway infrastructures: Numerical validation and parametric study
(Elsevier, 2021-11-01)
Article
Open AccessA novel experimental/numerical hybrid methodology for the assessment of railway-induced ground-borne vibration in buildings based on experimental measurements in the soil surface is proposed in this paper. This methodology ... -
Vibro-acoustic analysis of a domestic product based on experimental measurement and hybrid modelling
(2021-11-01)
Article
Open AccessThe purpose of this paper is to present a case study whereby a hybrid experimental–numerical model is used to analyse the structure-borne radiation from a domestic product (vacuum cleaner head). The passive (including ... -
Fractal rigidity of the wheel-rail contact
(Institute of Physics (IOP), 2020-12-25)
Article
Open AccessOne of the essential parameters of the roughness with effects on the vibration of the wheel and the rail is the contact stiffness. This rigidity considers the geometry and material of the wheel and rail, which are considered ... -
Influence of anthopometric variables on the mechanical properties of human rib cortical bone
(Institute of Physics (IOP), 2021-05-01)
Article
Restricted access - publisher's policyObjective. The mechanical properties of ribs from a large number of post-mortem human subjects (PMHS) were analyzed to search for variation according to age, sex or BMI in the sample. A large sample of specimens from ... -
Multiresonant Layered Acoustic Metamaterial (MLAM) solution for broadband low-frequency noise attenuation through double-peak sound transmission loss response
(Elsevier, 2021-08)
Article
Restricted access - publisher's policyThe problem of noise control and attenuation is of interest in a broad range of applications, especially in the low-frequency range, below 1000 Hz. Acoustic metamaterials allow us to tackle this problem with solutions that ... -
A 2.5D coupled FEM-BEM-MFS methodology for longitudinally invariant soil-structure interaction problems
(Elsevier, 2021-04)
Article
Restricted access - publisher's policyThis paper is concerned with a new prediction methodology for longitudinally invariant soil-structure interaction problems in elastodynamics. The method uses the finite-element method to model the structure, the boundary-element ... -
An experimental exploration of the properties of random frequency response functions
(2021-01)
Article
Restricted access - publisher's policyThe vibro-acoustic analysis of complex structures over a broadband frequency range is an extremely challenging problem that may often require the use of a hybrid deterministic-statistical approach. Due to manufacturing ...
