In recent years, the tendency of digitizing aircraft documentation has increased among commercial airlines, with initiatives such as the EFB implementation on board, which has allowed to swap 75kg of paper for two tablets. Following this trend, the aim of this project is to analyze the use of physical records in aircraft maintenance, in order to develop an app meant to replace them. This will reduce the amount of paper used, optimize the process and mitigate the inefficiencies arisen from a paper-based system. First, the checks system and the applicable regulation from both EASA and ICAO are studied, so as to understand how the maintenance of a fleet is carried out. Furthermore, the most important manuals and reports are analyzed with the purpose of understanding the kind of documentation involved. The next step entails a research of the software in use, its main features and the utilization that airlines make of them. Lastly, airDocs is designed and developed for both Android devices and computers. It enables a proper control of repairs and inspections, as well as an association to their documentation, which is stored in Dropbox. It is made up of four modules: engineering, TMA, cabin crew and administration, all explained in detail in their corresponding sections. In this way all parties involved are taken into account and are guaranteed full access to updated documentation. This decreases the possibilities of having to print any file. Essentially, this project is a study of the processes that ensure the airworthiness of a fleet, and suggests an alternative that may bring the industry one step closer to full digitalization.
