Abstract
In the last decade, the entire world has realized the importance of combating the climate emergency that we face every day. This phenomenon has terrible consequences not only on the biodiversity of our planet but also on an economic and social level. For these reasons, society is increasingly aware of the need to change our energy model, replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy sources. In this way, it is committed to the more rational use of energy through energy efficiency, distributed generation, and society's electrification. This energy transition proposes a paradigm shift at all levels, especially for consumers, who can generate their energy, in a distributed way, from their homes and businesses, becoming self-consumers and creating local energy associations. This TFM is focused on analyzing new possibilities of a new energy model, considering the generation of energy mainly from renewable sources such as Photovoltaic Energy. Because the concept of self-consumption should not be simplified to the idea of installing solar systems in single-family houses, on industrial roofs or even in multi-family buildings, but should go a step further and consider the formation of associations of people or united entities around the generation, consumption, management and distribution of energy, thus forming energy communities. All this based on the "Real Decreto 244/2019" of April 5th, which regulates the administrative, technical and economic conditions of the self-consumption of electricity. The document mentioned above allows a mode of self-consumption based on a static sharing of the generated energy; this means that established coefficients must be well identified to enable all the energy generated to be assigned among the associated to the local energy community. In this way, a more efficient distribution is achieved. The principle behind this better efficiency is the increase of the probability of matching the generated energy to the aggregated demand of the associated consumers. Another benefit that this vital document allows is the diversity of business models to capture better economic value of the energy communities. On this regard, the possibility of a PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) business model will be studied. As an exercise in a real environment, the aim is to analyze data from a public tender called "Rubí Brilla." This program's objective is to create a polygon management procedure around sustainability and the circular economy with the creation of plants photovoltaic plants on the roofs of 13 companies in one of the most representative industrial area in Rubí. This project will make it possible to diagnose, promote and implement collective actions that help reduce the use of energy from non-renewable sources, CO₂ emissions, and reducing the cost dedicated to utilities, thus improving business competitiveness and environmental sustainability. However, some restrictions imposed by the Real Decreto aforementioned, such as the voltage level and the proximity limits, will also be considered. For this reason, this thesis also analyzes some possibilities for improving regulatory and energy distribution frameworks, expanding the versatility of sharing to nearby facilities, as well as quantifying the economic impact of these legislative improvements.
