El grup de recerca té com a objectius dissenyar, analitzar i avaluar nous protocols, xarxes de transport i accés i serveis de nova generació d'Internet, fonamentant-se en el coneixement per part dels membres del grup de models de trànsit i tomografia de xarxa, protocols de transport, de xarxa i d'accés al medi, modelització i disseny de serveis, tecnologies de transport i accés elèctric, òptic i sense fils, i mecanismes de senyalització i gestió de xarxes.
