Unequal physical-chemical behaviour of water sources in the north, west and east of Montseny (Barcelona-Girona)

A sampling of the water of the 75 main sources of the east of the Montseny massif, in the region of La Selva (Girona, Spain), is carried out to perform the analysis of physicochemical parameters and elements such as flow, pH, conductivity, bicarbonates, sulfates, chlorides, nitrates, hardness, calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium. The methodology used for the determination of each of the parameters has been made according to standard methods, an external quality control has been carried out and the ionic balance has been made to see the percentage of error in the analysis. With the results found, each of the waters has been characterized, concluding that the waters of the east Montseny are of weak mineralization, mostly bicarbonated-calcic, and punctual contents higher than 50 mg/L of nitrates in some source of the municipalities of Breda and Sant Feliu de Buixalleu. These physicochemical data are compared with those found in previous years in the north and west zones, following the same types of analysis.
