Abstract
Today it is still necessary to time athletes of different modalities in competition and training. Currently in training, it is measured with portable devices, such as the manual chronometer or modern photoelectric cells. Photoelectric cells are modules which are placed to the right and left in the path through which the subject passes. These two modules generate a laser or infrared light beam that generates a line that we use as a point to measure, when the athlete cuts this line a stimulus that records the time is generated. In this work we will evaluate the problems presented by the timing systems: DSD Laser System, KIT WITTY and Cronox 3.0. Based on the results obtained, we will design, manufacture and evaluate a prototype of Photoelectric Cells with better performance. The system we design is made up of three modules: Base, Emitter and Receiver. The Base module is available at the start of the test and is in charge of giving the athletes the start, sending the stopwatch start signal and displaying the results on a Smartphone. For this, this module has, among other elements, an Arduino UNO, NRF24L01 antenna and all kinds of electronics to represent the output. The Emitter module is placed at the end point of the route, perpendicular to the race. This module is the simplest of the three, he just sends laser light cutting the street where you are going to run aiming at the Receiver. The Receiver module is placed just in front of the Emitter, correctly aligned the laser enters through the hole of the Receiver and excites the sensor, in this way the Receiver knows when the beam has been cut. This module is the one that receives the output signal and makes the time difference with the moment in which the laser beam is cut, in addition that information must be sent back to the Base module, to view it. After completing the construction of the system and testing it on a running track with federated athletes, the design was highly appreciated for its simplicity and wireless connection. The negative aspects were the sound and a supposed error around 0.1 second in the measurement. An error of 0.1 is significant in speed tests, so we should do a code response study. I believe that the objective of this work has been fulfilled, which is to make a prototype that brings us closer to the idea of a product and that presents improvements and benefits for the consumer we are targeting. In this work I have had the opportunity to apply a little of each area of which we have studied in the degree, since developing an electronic product like the one we have created implies having knowledge of electronics, mechanics, programming and a part of business.
