dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this research is to determine the resilience of public housing promoted by the council of Zaragoza under the Reduced Income Law of 1939, through two case studies: Francisco Caballero housing estate (1940-1946) and El Picarral housing estate (1947-1957). The main objective is to understand the living conditions that they currently offer, as well as their adaptability to the variable needs of the environment and the population. The economic limitations that condition this type of building, lead to a constructive and spatial reduction, and drove to growth of a uniform population. Faced with this reality, a complementary investigation to those of technological nature is proposed, in order to reach a new study of typologies, which attends to current needs in the way of living. This opens the possibility of providing flexibility to the types so that they are suitable for a diversity of users that increases the complexity of the estates and thus their integration in the city. The typologies of these estates are analyzed from the conditions offered by the collective services; the adequacy of the space to the initial and current occupation; the articulation of the functional areas; the ratio between the bedrooms and the living area; the provision of hygienic services, kitchen, storage, etc.; and the bioclimatic behavior in relation to the orientation, ventilation and adequacy of the windows and possible regulatory elements of the facade. This analysis of the current behavior of dwellings is complemented by a study of their adaptability to possible variations in their form of use, in a bid to understand domestic architecture as a social necessity. |
