Analysis and optimisation of the current gears transmission system of the UPC ecoRacing Formula Student vehicle

Abstract

This project contains the analysis and optimisation of the gears transmission system which has been designed for the new Formula Student vehicle ecoRX, from UPC ecoRacing team. First, the system design to analyse is explained for the good comprehension of the reader. Also, the working reference of the system and its application to a Formula Student vehicle car is explained. Detailed explanation of design process followed and final characteristics is done. Then, a deep analysis is done by analytic calculations from lectures, which permits analyse teeth strength and meshing efficiency and stiffness. The last step of analysis is made using ANSYS support, for static structural calculations using finite elements method. After a model convergence analysis, meshing behaviour and contact stresses in the system are analysed. Finally, with the data obtained from analytic and numerical analysis, an optimisation of the system is proposed.
