Abstract
C. Elegans is a nematode worm which is a very popular organism used in all kinds of research in biology. It is widely used because its complete genome has been completely determined, as well as each of the cells of its body and the worms are transparent, permitting a variety of structural investigations. In this project we will focus in the mechanics of the organisms that have a similar shape in their bodies, which are called worm-like organisms. This organisms are characterized by its sinusoidal shape and movement, and they can be analyzed in a simple one-dimensional model. We will study with more detail from a theoretical and a practical point of view the different forces that act in the system and which characteristics allows the movement of the organism. We will develop a code in Matlab to have a better understanding of the forces and check our theoretical analysis.
