dc.description.abstractReflectometry using Global Navigation Satellite System's signals of opportunity (GNSS-R) was originally conceived in the early 90s for mesoscale altimetry, and since then, many studies have shown its applicability to other remote sensing applications. In 2002, the Remote Sensing Lab at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya started working in Global Navigation Satellite Reflectometry (GNSS-R) to perform a more accurate correction of the sea state when retrieving sea surface salinity from L-band microwave radiometer data (e.g. SMOS). During these 12 years, the lab has developed ground-based, airborne, balloon, and spaceborne GNSS-R payloads for a number of different applications. This paper provides an overview of the families of instruments, and the design choices made.
