dc.description.abstract | This paper is aimed at describing an intelligent environmental aware energy management system for underground stations, developed under the auspices of the European project Sustainable Energy mAnageMent for Underground Stations (SEAM4US) and implemented in a pilot underground station. With an average consumption of 217.64kWh/m2·year, the breakdown revealed that the lighting system dominates the energy consumption of the station followed by illuminated advertising signs and ventilation. The SEAM4US energy management system has been designed to provide smart autonomous control ofthe ventilation, lighting and vertical transportation trough the core, monitoring and control subsystems. Several control policies were simulated and expected energy savings were found to range between 11 % and 20% ofthe total energy consumption. |
