Abstract
The present work includes a numerical study of stainless-steel vertical link in Y-inverted eccentrically braced frames. In this way, two innovative topics will be investigated in the field of steel structures. Among with these novelties are the use of mechanically advantageous and durable material, and an unpopular structural system. That can take advantage of them in building located in places of seismic hazard. The used software are SAP2000 and Abaqus (it can be applied the cyclical parameters of Chaboche stain hardening model).
To summary, the study will support of the literature to understand these two new concepts and to develop a parametric study of stainless steel (EN 1.4301) and carbon steel (S355) profiles. It includes HEB160 and HEB200 with geometric and material nonlinearity varying their length. So, they have a differentiation in their classification as short, intermediate, and long; as well as using intermediate transversal stiffeners and defining different levels of actions. Regarding to the test performed are buckling analysis, monotonic and cyclical including their respective residual stresses and geometric imperfections given for manufacturing purposes. To understand the mechanical behavior of the material when it is placed as a member of an earthquake resistant structure. Where its non-linear capacity, large deformation and dissipation of plastic energy are the basis to define its characteristics and to compare with popular carbon steel, frequently using in this type of structure.
