dc.description.abstractIn this paper we briefly describe the finite element procedure developed to simulate the two dimensional fluid-structure interaction of a rigid circular cylinder, immerse in an incompressible viscous fluid flow which is coupled with optimization techniques in order to minimize the amplitude of the cylinder displacements. Due to the high computational cost associated with the numerical simulations, surrogate models are built using kriging based data fitting scheme. The results obtained when the whole methodology is applied to the minimization of Vortex Induced Vibration (VIV) on Fluid Structure Interaction (FSI) problems are presented and discussed.
