Abstract
Comparative analysis of photovoltaic generation estimation tools and strategic analysis - business opportunities and technical requirements- for an increasing renewable energy sources market penetration Under a global digitalization process of the industry and the society, with a clear shift from small towns to big urban cores, smart cities arise, and with them, smart electricity grids are needed to power the citizens’ needs. In this equation, with people more and more concerned about environmental issues and our impact on the planet, renewable energy technologies have found their spot, and aim to eventually take the biggest part of the energy market. If the global focus for growth is put onto smart cities and a global society, distributed scale renewable generation technologies are key for the energetic development in this new paradigm. This report aims to first, provide a study on optimization of commercial-scale photovoltaic projects, by comparing different software tools and determine the most appropriate ones, out of all the identified, to cover these new needs. Moreover, it links this energy generation part of the study, with the business opportunities that it provides. Finalizing with a study on the technical requirements that current electricity networks need to be able to withstand the increasing penetration of renewable energy sources, as well as a state-of-the-art of distributed storage technologies, that tend to be very closely linked with distributed renewable generation technologies
