Study of the evolution of European airlines market and predict the market behaviour of commercial satellites at VLEO mission

Abstract

Remote sensing has been largely the realm of a few companies and countries which have dominated the commercial market for Earth Observation. All that may be changing though in recent years with declining cost and size as well as more widely available electronic and sensor technologies. Small satellites, that is, micro, nano and pico satellites not only make it easier to build a satellite but also make it more affordable. The trend toward smaller satellites is also visible because the same mission objectives can be achieved more quickly and at a lower cost.This situation is similar to the irruption of Low Cost airlines some decades ago in a well-established market dominated by National Airlines. This report, intends to study the factors that favored this new era and try to apply them to the current satellites situation in order to define possible future scenarios.
